The Canon PIXMA PRO-1 Network Professional Inkjet Photo Printer is a printer for the working professional photographer. Targeted towards users of DSLR cameras like the Canon EOS 60D, 7D and 1D, the PRO-1 is a welcome addition to Canon's existing printer line. It accepts media from 4.0 x 6.0" to 13 x 19" in size. Roll media is not accepted.

The new print head features 12,288 nozzles, improving upon the 7,680 on the previous model, the PRO 9500 Mk II. This head offers an expanded color gamut and faster print speeds than were previously possible. The inks are housed on the side of the head and delivered via a tubular system. Placement on the side allows the ink tanks to be larger, and at 36 ml, they can hold 157% more ink than the 14 ml tanks of their predecessors, the PRO 9500 and 9500 Mk II.

The PIXMA PRO-1 boasts 12 pigment-based inks / colors from the LUCIA family in 12 channels, including 5 monochrome inks for expanding the color gamut in dark areas: Matte Black, Photo Black, Dark Gray, Gray and Light Gray. In addition to these monochrome colors, the printer offers Cyan, Photo Cyan, Magenta, Photo Magenta, Yellow, Red and the special Chroma Optimizer. This last one provides a clear coat that enhances the uniform glossiness of the paper and also broadens the color gamut. The optimizer enhances black density for truer, richer blacks, as well. This ink system provides smooth gradations, suppressed graininess and an anti-bronzing effect for increased clarity and color fidelity. Enjoy professional-quality grayscale and color prints. There's no swapping of black ink cartridges required, saving time and ink, since you don't need to manually switch cartridges--a lengthy process which often results in ink loss--or wait for the printer to automatically switch between cartridges.

The super-quiet PRO-1 also boasts the capacity for direct CD and DVD printing. ICC profiles are available to ensure that contrast range and color saturation look the same across different paper types. These profiles will provide color-managed workflows and help to ensure that your prints look like the images on your camera's monitor. With ICC's, there's no need to manually adjust channels in Photoshop--the printer and its drivers do the work for you. Canon's ICC profiles load with the included driver. Other manufacturer's profiles, including Moab, ILFORD and Hahnemuhle, are available by downloading the required drivers on the manufacturer's websites.

The PIXMA PRO-1 features 10/100 Ethernet connectivity, a USB 2.0 port, and a PictBridge port that allows you to print directly from your compatible camera.
